Learn more about the Artist, Photographer and Lifelong Conservationist, Ingrid Fouché.
The African bush was home to Ingrid during her childhood, instilling a profound love for nature and its lavish bounty.
Without formal art training, she began her career as a commercial photographer. However, she was drawn back to the wild places and worked in the Zambezi Valley and in Chobe, Botswana as a guide to foreign tourists until moving to South Africa in the 1980’s.
Ingrid’s passion for art flourished during the 80s and 90s, although she could only dedicate her spare time to painting while raising her two sons. Today, she paints full-time, creating stunning works in soft pastels and exhibiting her art alongside her son, Leon.
Like Leon, Ingrid is deeply committed to conservation. She regularly donates artwork and proceeds to projects focused on the survival of endangered species and environmental protection.
Soft pastels are Ingrid’s chosen medium, perfect for recreating the lifelike textures of an animal’s fur or the delicate feathers of a bird. She uses only the finest soft pastels on archival, PH-neutral pastel boards, combining them with conservation-grade framing to ensure the longevity of each piece.
It’s not widely known, but soft pastels are one of the most durable artistic mediums. Made from natural pigment powder and a simple binder, they contain no added chemicals meaning no upkeep is needed. They will never fade, crack or discolour. Museums throughout the world are exhibiting pastel drawings that after hundreds of years show no signs of losing their brilliance.
Ingrid consistently donates artwork and proceeds to conservation initiatives and remains dedicated to supporting projects focused on endangered species and environmental preservation.
She and Leon have exhibited at South Africa’s largest outdoor art exhibition, “Art in the Park” in Pietermaritzburg, every year since 2002, often as top sellers with most collections selling out.
In December 2021, Namibia’s leading fine art gallery hosted a solo exhibition featuring the works of both Leon and Ingrid.
Ingrid has also been accepted as a Signature member of the prestigious “Society of Animal Artists”.
