Learn more about the Artist, Photographer and Lifelong Conservationist, Leon Fouché.
Leon is an internationally acclaimed wildlife artist, photographer and conservationist. Finding so much inspiration all around him, Leon seeks to celebrate the absolute beauty of nature and its creatures in his art, inviting the viewer to share a respect and admiration for this amazing world.
Leon began his journey shortly after completing school in 2001, exhibiting his work alongside his mother, Ingrid. Since then, his career has flourished, with numerous exhibitions worldwide and awards recognising his talent. His ultra-realistic artwork is highly sought after and can be found in private and corporate collections across the globe.
As a passionate conservationist, Leon frequently donates his artwork and proceeds to wildlife conservation projects. His commitment to protecting endangered species and the environment is reflected in his continued involvement with impactful conservation efforts.
Soft pastels are Leon’s chosen medium, perfect for recreating the lifelike textures of an animal’s fur or the delicate feathers of a bird. He uses only the finest soft pastels on archival, PH-neutral pastel boards, combining them with conservation-grade framing to ensure the longevity of each piece.
It’s not widely known, but soft pastels are one of the most durable artistic mediums. Made from natural pigment powder and a simple binder, they contain no added chemicals meaning no upkeep is needed. They will never fade, crack or discolour. Museums throughout the world are exhibiting pastel drawings that after hundreds of years show no signs of losing their brilliance.
